Abstract

This study was conducted to explore the effect of rhythmic exercise on health status of old living in home with family at T-dong, Jung-ku, in Daejon Metropolitan City. The exercise was performed 3 times per week for 12weeks in the course of 40-50minutes for 1 session, the exercise was developed by Kim for physical balance for the old. The flexion & abduction degeree of shoulder joint, flexion degree of hip joint, muscle strength, balance and gait, cognition, and depression were measured before and after exercise to the experimental and the control group. Collected data was processed using SPSS 9.0 PC program.
The results were as follows.
There were no statistically significant difference in all variables but all variables of the exprimental group were improved progressively. This results was considered as a limitation of aging process and length of exercise and also positive effect. But in experimental group, there was a improvement in balance and gait through exercise which was associated with low extrimity, and in addition gained secondary benefit would prevent fall down.
In the future, further research should be considered the exercise modification adjusted to the level of age of the old.
